This presentation explores the application of Extended Reality (XR) and Artificial Intelligence in healthcare training through the case study of TriageXR, an immersive emergency-room simulation platform developed in Unity. The talk will focus on how XR technologies can support clinical education by recreating realistic emergency scenarios where healthcare professionals can train decision-making, patient interaction, and triage procedures in safe and repeatable environments. Particular attention will be dedicated to the integration between immersive simulation and conversational AI, enabling dynamic and non-scripted interactions with virtual patients. The presentation will also discuss the technical and design challenges involved in creating believable healthcare simulations, including real-time interaction, usability, synchronization between AI systems and XR environments, and workflow realism. The session will conclude with reflections on the future of XR and AI in healthcare training, followed by a live demonstration of the TriageXR platform.
